2005-2010: Foundational Years Building Recruitment Ltd’s story begins in 2005, born out of frustration from personal experiences with recruitment companies. With a vision to innovate and lead in the industry, Kevin founded the company fuelled by passion for the sector and backed by over 20 years of industry knowledge.
The early years were defined by our strategic focus on providing a service driven by professional expertise and industry knowledge. This enabled Building Recruitment Ltd to fill roles quickly and successfully, establishing a strong customer base within the Building Material Supply and Manufacturing chain and Residential builders.
By 2010, we had become a highly regarded business partner, celebrated for our staffing solutions.
Surviving the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) was one of the toughest challenges for any new business. With recruitment at an absolute standstill, the devastation was profound. However, one of Kevin’s greatest professional achievements remains navigating through this period and emerging as a stronger, more refined business.
2010-2015: Expansion and Diversification As the global economy rebounded from the GFC, we capitalized on opportunities to expand our operations. During this time, we made the strategic decision to diversify our services in Permanent Recruitment into other sectors such as Commercial Construction and Civil with great success. By identifying industry shortfalls during a booming market, we positioned ourselves as a serious contender in international talent search.
We carried out highly successful international roadshows in collaboration with Immigration New Zealand, targeting the UK, Ireland, and Australia, as well as independently organizing events in South Africa. This firmly established our reputation as a proactive company that went above and beyond to secure top-tier talent not just in New Zealand but globally.
2015-2020: Technological Advancements and Broader Services Our success in international talent search spurred further growth, and we expanded this aspect of our business with remarkable results. As our reputation grew, clients began requesting that we supply workers on a temporary basis. This pivot broadened our service offerings and allowed us to cater to a wider range of client needs, significantly boosting revenue and strengthening our market position.
Recognizing the importance of innovation, we invested heavily in technology and refined our internal processes. These advancements not only enhanced our operational efficiency but also solidified our standing as a forward-thinking leader in the industry.
2020-2021: Navigating the COVID-19 Pandemic The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges worldwide. Our company displayed extraordinary resilience, adapting swiftly to remote work and implementing stringent health and safety protocols. A special emphasis was placed on mental well-being, ensuring our team felt supported during these uncertain times.
Although the business had been on a steady growth trajectory before the shutdowns, the pandemic brought immense stress. Yet, we didn’t remain idle. Instead, we used this time to refine systems, enhance processes, and conduct strategic business planning. We also collaborated with Mates in Construction to ensure both our team and clients were well supported, demonstrating our commitment to collective welfare.
2021-2022: Recovery and Rebuilding As the world began to recover, so did we. Embracing digital transformation, we enhanced operational efficiency and customer engagement, which led to significant revenue growth. Our dedication to social responsibility remained steadfast as we provided unwavering support to employees, clients, and the community at large.
2022-2025: Sustained Growth and Visionary Leadership In the post-pandemic era, we are poised for sustained growth. Our strategic focus on sustainability, innovation, and customer-centricity continues to drive long-term success. We’ve invested in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, ensuring we remain at the forefront of industry trends.
Despite financial challenges, we never wavered in our support for Mates in Construction. Achieving accreditation as the first and only Labour Hire firm to earn this recognition was a defining moment—years in the making and a true cause for celebration.
Building Recruitment Ltd has also been an influential voice in national industry focus groups. Working with Ministers Bishop and Penk, as well as indirectly with Immigration NZ, we played a pivotal role in shaping key policy changes, such as:
- Removing the 35% NZ workforce threshold
- Establishing minimum hourly rates reduced from $31/hour
- Allowing employers to recruit workers for essential general labour roles
Additionally, we’ve partnered with MSD to help guide youth into trade careers, collaborating with schools and industry training providers to nurture the next generation of skilled workers.
Where to from here? Building Recruitment Ltd remains committed to continuous improvement. Several internal projects are set to roll out by mid-2025, as we strive to further enhance our operations. We are also proud to have secured AEWV Accreditation, ensuring our clients can rely on us for consistent excellence.
